I’ve tried playing basketball, but let’s be honest, I was terrible at it, and I never really understood the rules. I also don’t watch sports. Yet data analysis often requires working with unfamiliar topics. In professional settings, subject matter experts help bridge knowledge gaps. For this project, I relied on the internet and the data source’s glossary to build my understanding.
This project analyzes 2024-25 NBA player stats (total). I depend on the data to provide insights by itself. I hope that curiosity and the eagerness to learn can lead to understanding, even if they don’t replace the benefits of deep knowledge of the subject.

The Scoring Race
This section shows the top 20 players in the NBA season 2024-2025 based on their points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, led the season with 2,484 points.
Position Breakdown
This section shows the average points, assists, and rebounds for each basketball position: Point Guard (PG), Shooting Guard (SG), Small Forward (SF), Power Forward (PF), and Center (C).
In terms of average points, PGs and SGs, who initiate plays and specialize in scoring, led the points stats. Similarly, PGs and SGs also led in average assists. However, when it comes to average rebounds, C and PF, who guard the paint and play in the post, dominated the rebounding stats.
The All-Around Players
This section presents the stats for the 10 best players who have the highest cumulative points, assists, and rebounds. Based on these cumulative stats, Nikola Jokić, a center for the Denver Nuggets, led the season.
Offensive Efficiency
There was a positive correlation between field goal attempts and points scored. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led in points and field goal attempts, shooting 51.9% from the field.
Defensive Impact
Blocks and steals show wide spread. Based on the positions, guards (PG/SG) excelled at creating steals but rarely blocked shots, while centers dominated blocks but generated fewer steals. This highlights how defensive roles differ by position. Forwards (SF/PF) had a more balanced defensive profile, contributing moderately in both areas of defense.
