The Trends for the Keyword “mukena” in Indonesia

Ramadhan and Eid al Fitr are two important Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide. Ramadhan is a month-long fasting and spiritual reflection, while Eid al Fitr marks the end of Ramadhan and is celebrated with great joy and festivity. During the holy month of Ramadhan, Muslims perform special voluntary night prayers called Tarawih. And on Eid al Fitr, Muslims are encouraged to perform special prayers in the morning.

During prayers, Indonesian women typically wear mukena. Mukena is a lightweight garment made of cotton or silk fabric that comes in various styles and colors.

Considering how special Tarawih and Eid al Fitr prayers are, it is customary for Muslim women to wear their nicest mukena. Hence, before Ramadhan or Eid al-Fitr, it is likely for Muslim women to search for mukena to renew their wardrobes or for friends and family to search mukena for presents.

For this project, I analyzed the popularity of the keyword “mukena” on Google Search in Indonesia. The report displays the weekly trends from 2017 to 2021, with the final week being during Eid al Fitr. It’s worth noting that the Google Trends week runs from Sunday to Saturday.

After analyzing data from 2017 to 2021, we found that mukena is most frequently searched for on Google in Indonesia during the first week of Ramadan or the week preceding. This information can be advantageous for mukena sellers, as they can strategically promote their products during the peak demand and ensure sufficient supply.
